Martin McDonagh's gripping play about a tormented writer and a musical about two ragtime-era composers took top regional honors when the 31st annual Carbonell Awards were presented Monday night at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
GableStage's production of McDonagh's The Pillowman also brought the best director award to Joseph Adler, artistic director of the Coral Gables company, and the best actor Carbonell to Antonio Amadeo, who played an imprisoned author of beyond-grim children's stories.
Sound designer Matt Corey also won for The Pillowman, and costume designer Erin Amico was honored for her work on GableStage's Intimate Apparel.
