GableStage at the Biltmore is proud to announce the Southeastern Premiere of a new musical, ADDING MACHINE, opening on December 27 and running through January 25.
This Award-Winning play, with music by Joshua Schmidt and a libretto by Jason Loewith and Joshua Schmidt, is adapted from The Adding Machine, written in 1923 by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Elmer Rice. Generally considered to be the first American Expressionist play, it is the story of a man who, after 25 years of service to his company, is replaced by a mechanical adding machine.
The incredibly accomplished GableStage cast (and directors and designers) have collectively been nominated for 55 Carbonells - and have won 25. They are, in alphabetical order, Irene Adjan, Jim Ballard, Oscar Cheda, Ken Clement, Erik Fabregat, Maribeth Graham, Lisa Manulli, Stacy Schwartz and Barry Tarrallo. Direction is by Joseph Adler, musical direction by Eric Alsford, choreography by Ron Headrick, set by Lyle Baskin, lights by Jeff Quinn, costumes by Ellis Tillman, stage manager is Kristen Pieski.
This stylish and stylized production, which had its World Premiere in Chicago at the Next Theatre Company in 2007, has an eclectic score that gives passionate and memorable voice to this darkly comic and heartbreakingly beautiful play. It received wonderful reviews and audience ovations when it moved Off-Broadway to the Minetta Lane Theatre on February 25, 2008.
