The Jewish Stories Project supports theatrical works that explore Jewish identity, history, culture, memory, and the experiences that connect generations. In its inaugural year, the initiative helped make possible Nilo Cruz’s Sotto Voce and the Florida premiere of Joshua Harmon’s Prayer for the French Republic, which became the highest-grossing production in GableStage’s history and sparked meaningful conversations throughout our community.
This season, we continue this work with the Florida premiere of We Had a World, one of Harmon’s most personal and moving plays. A sharply funny and deeply heartfelt coming-of-age story, the play examines the extraordinary relationship between a young boy and his larger-than-life grandmother while exploring memory, family legacy, Jewish identity, and the stories that shape who we become.
